The Museum of 1980s Artifacts

A very simple exercise in writing with voice – meaning how characters communicate their values and worldview via their dialogue and narration.

The Museum of 1980s Artifacts is a single room with four sprites representing various bits of 1980s ephemera: a comically large wireless phone, a Wishnik troll doll, a laserdisc, and the preserved head of Ronald

The exercise: Choose an identity for the player and try to write all four descriptions in that voice. For bonus points, try and do all four and see how you can keep each voice distinct from the rest.

  • A Gen Alpha child.
  • Someone from the year 2300.
  • An archaeologist.
  • A survivor in a post-apocalypse.

Really like this one as well! Going try and combine it with Causal Layered Analysis in my Futures Literacy courses.
